About us

We are the national charity for homeless people. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

What we do

We work directly with thousands of homeless people every year. We provide vital help so that people can rebuild their lives and are supported out of homelessness for good. We offer one to one support, advice and courses for homeless people in 12 areas across England, Scotland and Wales. How we help someone depends on their individual needs and situation. It could be with finding a home and settling in, getting new skills and finding a job, or help with their health and wellbeing. We use research to find out how best to improve our services, but also to find wider solutions to homelessness. Together with homeless people and Crisis supporters, we campaign for the changes needed to end homelessness for good.

How to end homelessness

In 21st century Britain, everybody should have a place to live.

We’ve published a plan showing the solutions that can end homelessness in Britain, including how long it will take and how much it will cost.

To create the plan, we used our 50 years’ experience, the best evidence and research worldwide, and consultation with over 1,000 experts including people with lived experience of homelessness.

Our history

We were founded in 1967, amidst growing realisation of the extent of the homelessness crisis across the UK.

Politicians, homelessness groups and social activists came together to mobilise support for homeless people and campaign for an end to the scandal.

Crisis was never intended to be in existence for this long.

We don't intend to be in existence in 50 years' time.
